The European Transplant Sport Championships (ETSC) is a joint event brought together by the European Transplant and Dialysis Sports Federation (ETDSF) and the European Heart and Lung Transplant Federation (EHLTF). Lisbon will be the stage when, for the first time in history, the two Federations unite together in holding the 2024 European Transplant Sport Championships.
ETSC 2024 comprises a week of multi-sport competition amongst solid organ transplant recipients, people on dialysis and hematopoietic cell transplants from over 25 European countries.
This partnership will be a great opportunity to promote the enormous benefits of organ donation and the incredible life-saving impact of organ transplants.
Both European Federations have a long history of holding European transplant competitions.
The European Transplant and Dialysis Sports Championships were first staged in Athens, Greece in 2000 and held every 2 years in a total of 10 different countries.
The Heart and Lung Transplant Games history starts from 1989 when the Dutch national association for heart transplants organised a weekend of friendly competition with a small number of countries. During the 5th European games held in 1994 in Helsinki, Finland the European Federation for Heart Transplants was officially established. Lung transplant recipients had been coming to the bi-annual games for many years but it was only in 2005 that the Federation name was changed to officially include lung transplants.
ETSC 2024 will be hosted by GDTP – Grupo Desportivo de Transplantados de Portugal with the assistance of O-Sports a sports event organisation based in Portugal.
ETSC 2024 will be held in Lisbon between Sunday 21st July and Sunday 28th July 2024.
This event has more than 20 years of history, and more than 500 competitors are expected in more than 15 sports.
More information will be released soon!
